Looking for a reason to get out of bed in the morning, Sanjiv took action
Sanjiv Dodhia lives in Surrey with his wife and three children, but spent much of the last 15 years working away from home in varying roles with Capgemini, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services. Sanjiv knew he wanted to move on from the corporate rat race, but it wasn’t until he met ActionCOACH at the Business Startup Show that he knew where he was headed.
Ready for a career change
“I was ready to move on in my career, but it had to be for the right opportunity,” Sanjiv explains. “I wanted something to keep me engaged and enhance my own development for the next 15-20 years doing meaningful work that would get me out of bed, rather than cruising to retirement.
“Since graduating from The London School of Economics, all of my roles have been in business development, commercial and general management, from start-ups to growth businesses through to a global firm employing 160,000 people.
“I was looking for something that would harness my skills in sales, communication, partnering and growing businesses. I had also completed a leadership programme at Capgemini, which had opened my eyes to the power of coaching, mentoring and developing people and so, when I came across ActionCOACH at the show in November 2015, it was clear this could be the opportunity I had been searching for.”
Sanjiv went to the ActionCOACH discovery day in January 2016 and attended their UK franchise conference in the same month. He was convinced this was the right path to take for the next chapter of his life.
“I completed the global training in Las Vegas at the beginning of April, which was fabulous but, I have to say, it’s been the training from the UK support team and the community of coaches that has been really outstanding,” Sanjiv says.
“I came back from Las Vegas and went straight to ActionCOACH’s Business Excellence Forum, which was two days of distinguished speakers and phenomenal learning. It gave me a real boost for when I launched my ActionCOACH business just a few days later.
“I wanted to build my business by coaching established companies that are looking to go from good to great or those that were stuck looking to get to the next level.
“In my first week, using the techniques from training, I saw three prospective clients and they all signed up for one-to-one coaching. That means I had already smashed the client income guarantee which ActionCOACH offers new franchise owners - if you invest in enough marketing to get you in front of six qualified prospects a month and use their UK sales process, you will achieve a gross £10,000 monthly income within your first 7 months of training. I did this in my first week!
“Since then I’ve secured three more one-to-one coaching clients and my average monthly billing over my first quarter of trading is £13,000 per month. Was the guarantee a motivator for me? Not really. My plan was to win six clients in six months, but achieving this in three months was a huge bonus.

“At this point in my career, my purpose is not keeping my bank account topped up - my property business pays my bills. I want to become a world class coach and make a difference to the businesses I work with, make an impact on their lives and the communities they serve.
“I’ve also gained much greater flexibility and control over my time. I work from a home office and regularly get out and about to visit my clients. I have time to play tennis and spend more time with my family.
