ISO, or the International Organization for Standardization, is an independent body based in Switzerland, which is instrumental in creating and maintaining standards to which international trade bodies and governments abide. IMSM has helped more than 6,000 organisations worldwide to achieve ISO certification, including ISO 9001 (quality), IS0 14001 (environmental), ISO27001 (information security), BS OHSAS 18001 (health & safety), TS 16949 (automotive), ISO13485 (medical devices), and ISO22000 (food industry).
Annual audits are then required to maintain ISO certification, resulting in an ongoing income stream. 95 per cent of IMSM clients request this service, resulting in long-term relationships.
IMSM is now seeking franchisees and offering the opportunity to own and run IMSM consultancies in selected locations around the UK. Franchisees can work from home, identifying potential clients, usually among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and presenting them with the benefits of the IMSM service. There is also a centralised appointments booking service that will also arrange contracts, invoice clients and act as credit control on outstanding invoices for franchisees.
The initial franchise fee for an IMSM franchise is £35,000 + VAT, with minimum personal investment of £12,500. Monthly management service fees vary depending on the level of support the franchisee requires from head office.
The IMSM franchisee will find that an established franchise business can make obtaining finance easier than setting up on one’s own. Most banks have local franchise managers or even a specialist franchising unit who can provide banking and financial support. Banks are often willing to lend up to 70 per cent of a franchisee’s costs, depending on their financial history.
Comprehensive training is offered by IMSM covering business development, the construction and implementation of ISO systems, and how to analyse companies to discern the gap between their current performance and the performance levels they will need to achieve to become ISO certified. Franchisees will also learn how to produce a revised ISO manual to ensure that updated processes and systems can be implemented by clients.
Initial training takes place at IMSM’s Malmesbury head office over a two-week period during which franchisees learn about GAP analysis and other aspects of the business, followed by additional field training in their chosen territory where franchisees will be accompanied by an experienced IMSM manager on their initial client appointments.
The IMSM franchise launch package will provide new franchisees with everything they need to start their own business. This includes 25 pre-booked appointments compiled on the franchisee’s behalf by IMSM’s call centre.
IMSM’s centralised booking, contracting and invoicing leaves franchisees free to find clients and develop their business.
Additional training is available that will allow franchisees to offer an extended range of ISO certifications.
Successful IMSM franchisees will see a significant return for their investment. IMSM will advance a percentage of fees ahead of clients paying in order to aid the cash flow of a new franchise. As franchisees run their businesses from home, they have low overheads and potential earnings by year five are estimated at six figures.
Many people coming anew to a franchise may prefer to buy an already established business with clients in place rather than build a new business. Retirement of relocation are among the reasons why a franchise might become available for resale. IMSM franchisees should be committed to succeeding and focussed on providing a service that goes beyond their clients’ expectations. A new franchisee is not expected to necessarily have previous experience of ISO certification, but a background in B2B sales and service would be an advantage.
The initial term for an IMSM franchise is five years with an option to renew.
