How does Moonstone Day Care franchise model work?

Moonstone’s system is actually very simple. The company has made sure that right from the start - and all the way along your journey - everything is laid out clearly for you, with a straightforward path to follow.

A lot will depend upon the premises from which you operate, so Moonstone will help with sourcing them to ensure they are suitable and fit within your business plan.

Once the premises have been sourced, Moonstone will work with you to find your customers.

The company has a well-proven marketing method for you to follow and will work alongside you to maximise the results from your marketing campaign.

Next, you will need to recruit some staff. Again, Moonstone has extensive experience in how to do this and will train you in how to attract - and retain - the best quality staff.

Once your nursery is open, your role will vary, depending upon how involved you wish to be.

There are certain regulatory requirements regarding the staff on the premises and Moonstone will advise you how many people you need and what each of their roles will comprise.

At that stage - and depending upon any previous experience you may have - Moonstone can define which of the roles you would undertake yourself.

Primarily, the company expects franchisees to take a senior managerial role and, certainly in the early stages, the business will benefit from your full-time input and support.

There is a core training module of five days, which takes place at Moonstone’s head office in Erdington, Birmingham.

Then, depending upon which type of role you want to take on (be it the nursery manager or the business owner employing a nursery manager), the next phase of training will be tailored to suit your requirements.

This can range from a few days’ management training, up to hands-on, apprenticeship-style training at one of Moonstone’s existing settings.

How must does it cost to become a Moonstone Day Care franchisee?

When you visit Moonstone, one of the things the company will discuss in much more detail is the financial investment involved in becoming a franchisee and what you receive in return.

However, the basics are as follows:

The total franchise package fee is £29,950 (plus VAT), which includes:
• All furniture and equipment for a 48-place nursery.
• Signage.
• Uniforms.
• Launch publicity and PR package.
• Office equipment.
• Stationery.
• Full business and operational training.
• Operating manuals.
• Your own local website.

Does Moonstone Day Care charge franchisees any ongoing fees?

Moonstone charges franchisees a management services fee of 8.5 per cent (plus VAT) of the total monthly sales income to the business. This represents excellent value and is one of the lowest fees in the sector.

What is the set-up cost?

The largest element of the set-up cost is usually related to the premises and can vary significantly, depending upon the condition the premises are in and the amount of work involved in getting them ready.

In order to have a realistic budget, your total investment (assuming a sensible amount of refurbishment work), including the franchise fee and an element of working capital, is likely to be between £80,000-£120,000.
