The demand for Mathnasium’s franchises is as great as the demand for its services
Just over 12 months ago Mathnasium - the children’s maths learning centre franchise - already a global phenomenon with over 900 centres worldwide, launched in the UK.
A full two-year pre-market entry study was completed, including extensive updates to the curriculum and business model, to create a perfect fit for the UK educational landscape.
Barely a year later, with 32 franchises awarded and receiving over 20 new enquiries per day, this business is showing that the demand for franchises is as great as the demand for its services.
Maths teaches thinking skills and problem solving - increasingly vital in children’s future work and daily life. There are currently more than nine million students in the UK and two thirds of them score below their year level in maths. This is why last year in the UK parents spent more than £6.5 billion on private or extra-curricular tuition.
The bottom line is students everywhere need help with maths at one time or another - more help than schools are able to provide.
Mathnasium firmly believes that any child can be good at maths. Most children possess the ability to understand the relationship between numbers. They just need the right instruction - they need to be taught maths in a way that makes sense to them.
The right instruction makes all the difference
Mathnasium’s UK operations director, Steve Felmingham, says: “The strength of the Mathnasium Method lies in its individualised approach.
“As no two students have the same skill level, our approach includes an initial skills assessment designed to identify where strengths and weaknesses lie for each student. Our own proprietary software then generates an individualised learning plan, personalised for each student. It’s an incredibly effective system and the results are astounding.
“This has provided the cornerstone to an amazing franchise model, which allows people to run a really rewarding business in a fabulous environment, enriching the lives of children in their community. Our franchisees can make money while making a difference - it’s no surprise that so many people want to join us.”
What makes a successful franchisee?
The background of Mathnasium franchisees has always been very diverse.
Mathnasium’s UK franchise director, Andrea White, says: “Even if you don’t have a teaching background, you can still excel as a Mathnasium franchisee.
“Mathnasium franchise training was designed to level the playing field. We teach you all you need to know about running a business that deals with maths instruction. It is a great business which can earn a great living, but it is also essential that you are keen to make a difference.
“One of the great things about Mathnasium is that it is a very simple and comparatively low cost financial model.
“You will operate from small high street premises and the fit-out and preparation is minimal. We will help you find the right location and our demographic and mapping data will provide you with detailed insights into the viability of your chosen site.
“We will train you in marketing, recruiting tutors and running the business, all you have to do is follow our system.”
