About Leisure Leagues

Leisure Leagues offers high-quality, adult, community-based five and six a side football leagues with excellent customer service. Teams fighting for the trophy pay a weekly match fee to play each other twice a season. Leisure Leagues is the longest established and largest business of its kind in the UK.

Leisure Leagues has enhanced its customer service by adding a personal touch and making sure all telephone operators are human operated, accessible and responsive. Facilities and referees can easily speak to Leisure Leagues if needed.

In 2000, Leisure Leagues opened its first purpose-built five a side venue in Swansea, and by 2004, the company was already employing over 100 people. By 2011, Leisure Leagues was operating over 500 divisions worldwide. Leisure Leagues employs innovative techniques and working practices, and since its creation, Leisure Leagues not only runs leagues but also an in-house TV production company, a media team, a graphic design team and more. With over 150,000 players registered and 63,000 players playing each week, Leisure Leagues has become one of a kind.

Now, over 50 per cent of Leisure Leagues are franchises.

How does a Leisure Leagues franchise work?

League games are usually played in third-party facilities such as schools, universities, indoor or outdoor spaces, or other, meaning you get to keep your overhead costs low. Moreover, there are no high maintenance costs.

As a Leisure Leagues franchisee, your day-to-day will involve starting new leagues, managing the teams, and finding new venues for your events. You will also need to market your business, and evaluate when it is time for you to expand and buy a new area for a new league if that is what you are interested in pursuing.

How much does a Leisure Leagues franchise cost?

The fee for a franchise in a new area starts from £5,995+VAT. This includes an exclusive postcode territory, support with finding an appropriate facility to start your first league. You will also receive a fully interactive website, a smartphone iPhone and Android app, and excellent SEO rankings for relevant search terms on Google. You will gain access to Leisure Leagues’ web-based content management system, online email, and account system and a full set of promotional materials. This also includes full training at the Leisure Leagues head office and on the job, and continued support to help you start your own league as quickly as possible, and grow your business from there. Staff uniforms are also provided to help you legitimise your business from day one.

There is also a management fee of £3 per team per week which covers server hosting, new team referrals from the website, access to Leisure Leagues’ national referee’s database and branded equipment, as well as insurance and support.

If you already run your own league, you can become a Leisure Leagues license partner for no fee, and instantly get access to the Leisure Leagues brand, while still running your own business.

How to find funding for a Leisure Leagues franchise?

It is possible to find funding for a Leisure Leagues franchise as they are partners with a number of high street banks willing to lend you the necessary amount to start your franchise. Leisure Leagues has acquired trust and a solid reputation for its successful business model, making banks eager to invest and approve your application quickly. You can get up to 70 per cent of your initial franchise fee from a loan.

There are also government initiatives aimed at young people (18-30), who will offer up to £25k without requiring a deposit. Leisure Leagues is here to help and advise you when looking at different options.

Do franchisees need prior sales experience?

While it can be helpful to be outgoing and a people’s person when running your Leisure Leagues, there are no specific skills required to open your own franchise. Moreover, Leisure Leagues will provide every new franchisee with comprehensive training at its head office in Warwickshire. This training includes new team recruitment, rules and regulations of small sided football, everything you need to know on developing new leagues, managing a league, administration, and competition, as well as marketing in order to help you run your franchise and eventually expand your league.

New locations for Leisure Leagues franchises

Leisure Leagues franchises are only available in areas where there are currently no other leagues. You will then receive exclusivity over the agreed territory of postcodes.

You may also prefer buying an existing franchise for sale. This is possible and you can do so from £7,995+VAT onward. Buying an existing franchise will allow you to benefit from income from day one, existing premises and an existing customer base. The price for an existing Leisure Leagues business will depend on the business’ size and current profit.
