More Than Loft Ladders franchisee, Iain Caldwell, explains why he chose its simple, low cost and home-based franchise

Iain Caldwell joined More Than Loft Ladders late last year. He’d looked at lots of franchises, but says he was put off by large upfront fees and heavy establishment costs.

And moving from the increasingly competitive and hard-sell world of estate agency, Iain was looking for an easier sell and a greater work/life balance.

Working hours

He says: “I’ve got my weekends back - and that’s something I haven’t experienced for years. This really is a Monday to Friday business.

“This isn’t hard sell at all. I got going straight away and all the advice MTLL’s founder, Mark Rigby, gave me was spot on.

“It’s so different from my experience with estate agents. This business is instant. It’s in and out, with no fuss and you get paid on the day. And there’s no waiting for weeks or months for a deal to come off.”

Creating space

MTLL and its franchisees make money by creating space. They supply and install ladders, lighting and boarding, all of which, franchise support manager Ian Willis says, transforms dark, dusty and neglected lofts into valuable and useable space.

“Lots of us have too many possessions, but have too little room to store them,” Ian says. “And moving to a new house or extending are both expensive and extreme.

“So with installations costing from just £300 - and at times adding 50 per cent more floor space to the home - it’s no surprise our franchisees and their services are in demand.”

The MTLL franchise can be run from home, costs £9,995 (plus VAT) and requires little previous experience.

In fact, franchisees only need to be physically fit with a good work ethic to quickly build a profitable business of their own.
