Parking fines have reached an all-time high as business motorists prove easy prey, new research has revealed.

Companies and their employees are throwing hundreds of thousands of pounds down the drain, according to National Car Rental. National has revealed that the number of parking fines it received for cars hired from the company reached 2,350 for the month of October, representing a year-on-year increase of just over 26 per cent and a rise of over 30 per cent since the beginning of 2005.

At an average cost of between £40 and £80 per ticket, in October 2005 alone drivers of National’s vehicles racked up a minimum of £90,000 in fines, or an incredible £176,000 if they incurred the full £80 penalty.
