Niall Ramphal launches in-home tutoring business in hometown of Harlow

Niall Ramphal has become Tutor Doctor’s youngest ever franchisee after opening his in-home tutoring business in his hometown of Harlow.

And the 20-year-old will be conducting consultations with parents, recruiting tutors and marketing his business all while studying for his maths degree at University College London.

Niall has a history of helping others, having assisted fellow students while he studied for his GCSEs and A-Levels, after which he took a year out to focus on getting into his university of choice.

During this time he provided extra tuition to students in his area, which was when Niall spotted a problem - and the solution.

He explains: “I’d been posting on a local group to see if people were looking for tutors and the response I got was overwhelming. There was a lack of support within my local area and it was at that moment I realised there was an opportunity.

“Working as an individual, it was extremely difficult to keep up with enquiries and consultations - it all just got a bit too much. I wanted to provide a solution for everybody, but I knew I couldn’t do it alone.”

It was at this point that Niall visited the International Franchise Show at ExCeL in April 2019 and started chatting with the Tutor Doctor team.

“The ethos of the brand directly aligns with my own,” he says. “I looked at other options, but I instantly knew I had found the one. The model allows me to do what I love in helping students, as well as managing a team to have a wider impact. It’s a win-win.”

Rather than hindering his business career, Niall believes his age gives him a competitive edge, particularly when it comes to getting to grips with digital technology.

“I think my age has given me a slight advantage,” he adds. “I’m coming into business when there are so many technological advancements hitting the market and some more mature business owners struggle to adapt.

“But I’ve known and used these things all my life. The world is transitioning into a more digital way of life and I’m able to use my knowledge to be savvy in the way I run my business.”
