Emily is now confident of hitting her target of at least £1,500 by autumn

Emily Wright, shipping and freight consultant at InXpress Preston, and daughter of franchise owners, Sally and Paul, will be running in the Berlin marathon.

Completing this world-famous event on 24 September 2023 will be an incredible personal achievement in itself, but Emily will also be raising money for the Alder Hey Children’s Charity.

Alder Hey is Europe’s biggest and busiest children’s hospital, treating everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions, and helps more than 300,000 children and their families every year. Within just a few days of launching, Emily’s Just Giving page has already raised more than £900, and she is confident of hitting her target of at least £1,500 by autumn.

The Alder Hey Children’s Charity is a cause which is especially close to Emily’s heart. She was born with a serious heart defect and had to be rushed into emergency surgery at just a few hours old. Thanks to the amazing team at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, not only did she survive, but also went on to become a happy, healthy adult who is now more than capable of running marathons, and even climbing the odd mountain.

“My family and I try to do something for the charity every year,  “ Emily said. “Last year, I ran the half-marathon in Manchester and, in 2019, dad and I even climbed Mount Kilimanjaro! I like trying to push myself because I was told as a child that I might have difficulty with a lot of everyday activities, so doing something like this is the perfect way to show how much Alder Hey have done for me and to give something back at the same time.“

With the money she raises, Emily hopes to help Alder Hey develop a new state of the art research and innovation facility that will enable them to help even more patients like her.

“Obviously, I am so grateful for what Alder Hey did for me, though I don’t remember it myself. Even more important to me is what they did for my parents. The hospital doesn’t just treat the child, but also provides wonderful care for parents during what is an extraordinarily stressful time. For us, and families like ours, Aldey Hey will always be incredibly special.”
