About Love Brownies

Love Brownies was established in 2009 by head baker Chantal Teal. As the name implies, the business sells a range of hand-made brownie products.

In addition to offering regular and gluten-free brownies, a vegan version is also on offer. Brownies are also available in a range of flavours.

Initially Love Brownies was limited to an online business. The first bakery / coffee shop was later opened in Ilkley, Yorkshire, and has been followed by two others. Each establishment sells brownies and brownie cakes to individuals, corporates, other cafés, restaurants, delicatessens, and for events and gifts.

Love Brownies franchisees are supplied with products and don’t bake them. All products are made to order and can be hand-delivered to locations within a five-mile radius of the bakery or couriered further afield.

All the brownies are made – whenever possible – from local, organic, and sustainable ingredients. For example, the sugar used is unrefined cane sugar and all non-local ingredients are Fairtrade. Nuts are not used in any products so those suffering from allergies can safely eat the brownies.

Although the Love Brownies franchise network is still in its infancy and has not yet garnered any awards, the brownies themselves have won numerous awards and accolades.

The products offered by Love Brownies

Although the company only makes brownies, there is a wide range of options available for customers:

o Brownie stack: These are ordered for events such as parties and weddings. They are supplied in bulk rather than as individually wrapped or piled / stacked on cake stands. There are also various flavours available and some decoration is also possible.

o Personalised party / wedding favours: Also offered in different flavours, these brownies are packed individually so they can be handed out to guests at functions.

o Gift boxes: Customers can choose the number, flavour, and type of brownies and they will be packed in gift or presentation box with a hand-written message.

o Corporate orders: As with gift boxes, the brownies of choice are placed in a presentation box or boxes depending on order size. Business cards, complimentary slips, or a company logo can be included.

o Wedding cakes: These are offered in three sizes, six different flavours, and with a choice of finish and garnish. Cake stands can also be hired.

All brownies are available in regular, gluten-free, or vegan.

How does a Love Brownies franchise work?

Franchisees run their own brownie retail store and coffee shop. However, you will be supplied with the full range of brownie products; you don’t bake them yourself.

How much does a Love Brownies franchise cost?

The fee for a Love Brownies franchise is £50,000 + VAT. The investment portion is £25,000 + VAT (recoverable) and the balance is financed through a low interest, unsecured loan.

What will I get from Love Brownies for my investment?

In addition to a license to open a coffee shop under the brand of Love Brownies and sell the full product range, you will receive:

 Premises: You will be assisted to identify suitable premises and to negotiate the lease.

 Store fitting: Your new store and coffee shop will be suitably fitted.

 Signage: Branded signage will be put up outside your store.

 Stock: You will receive a substantial stock package to launch your store. You will order stock from Ilkley thereafter.

 EPOS system: You will be given an Electronic Point of Sale computer system so you can easily
process sales.

 Training and support: You will receive training on all the products and options and the use of the EPOS system. The Operational manual provides all the information you require for the day-to-day running of your business.

 Recruitment: If you require it, you will be assisted to recruit suitable staff for your store and coffee shop.

Do I need catering experience to run a Love Brownies shop?

You don’t need baking or catering experience. Even if you don’t have retail or customer service experience you do need a passion for several things: Love Brownies products, service excellence, and dealing with people. You must have the drive and ambition to create a successful business.

Do I have to pay anything monthly?

You need to purchase stock and other overheads such as rent, staff salaries, etc. Specific costs will vary from franchise to franchise as various factors will differ.

Where does Love Brownies operate?

There are currently three locations: Ilkley in Yorkshire, Angel in London, and West Kirby in Merseyside. Two additional, new locations (Bond Street and Southgate) are in the pipeline.

You will be assisted with your marketing, however, as franchisees are supplied with a comprehensive promotional schedule and branded point of sale packages. These help you to drive sales and raise brand awareness in your location.
