Heritage Healthcare is a family-run business delivering high quality care that helps people live independently in the comfort of their own homes.
CEO Glenn Pickersgill started in the care home industry in the 1980s and, following his parent’s retirement, oversaw rapid expansion and success of their business. Glenn and his wife and director Sally sold the company in 2006 and purchased a home care company in the Redcar and Cleveland area, leading to the launch of Heritage Healthcare.
A further three branches were opened in the north east, providing high quality home care in Darlington, Teesside and York. Glenn and Sally, along with directors Amanda Jackson and Michelle Fenwick, wanted to build the business into a national home care provider, so chose to go down the route of franchising.
Heritage Healthcare is an associate member of the British Franchise Association. It currently has 22 franchisees operating in the UK.
The role of a Heritage Healthcare franchisee is to market and develop the business within their bespoke territory, providing support to clients and recruiting a team of carers, while receiving support from the franchising team.
The Heritage Healthcare franchise package includes assistance with producing a business plan and raising capital; electrical equipment for the care office, including a PC and laptop with Microsoft Office software installed; a tablet; a printer/photocopier; a range of marketing materials; and company insurance for the first year.
The company has franchise opportunities available throughout the UK.
In 2018 it launched into the international franchise market and has made connections in the Netherlands and Sweden. This year, Heritage Healthcare hopes to find the right master franchisee to launch the brand in a new country.

Since its inception, Heritage Healthcare has enjoyed success and since the company branched into the franchise industry, its growing network of franchisees have won numerous awards.
Its commitment to delivering excellent home care and support services resulted in Heritage Healthcare winning the British Franchise Association Emerging Franchisor of the Year prize in 2017.
Heritage Healthcare’s head office is based in Darlington in the north east of England.
All new franchisees undertake Heritage Healthcare’s bespoke induction training, which includes creating business plans, use of care planning software, payroll and finance support, marketing strategies and mandatory subjects such as health and safety, moving and handling and first aid awareness.
The company provides franchisees with comprehensive support in all key business areas and an extensive pre-start assistance programme.
It commences as soon as a franchisee joins Heritage Healthcare and continues throughout the term of the franchise agreement. After the induction training, carers undertake a minimum of two days familiarisation in which they shadow an existing, experienced member of the franchise network.
An in-house team of marketing professionals provide extensive support across online and offline marketing, alongside help with recruiting key staff members and guidance about policies and procedures.
Franchisees also receive support from the company’s franchise support manager and business development manager, who visit franchisees within their own care office and provide advice and guidance where needed.
Five-year rolling renewal, with no obligation to renew and no renewal fee charged upon renewal.

The population in the UK is getting older, with 18 per cent of people living in the country aged 65 and over, according to Office for National Statistics figures.
Meanwhile, Age UK research shows that 3.64 million people in the UK aged 65 and over live alone, which is around 32 per cent of all people aged 65-plus in the UK. With an expanding population and ever increasing life expectancy, growth is set to continue.
Many older people want to continue living in their own homes for as long as possible. The trend is backed by all political parties, local authorities and voluntary groups, as well as the individuals and families themselves, and it’s a movement that’s driving opportunities for care givers with the right skills.
