World Options franchisee, Croash Robinson, opens up about the future of the shipping industry, support from the head office and finding his confidence
Having successfully run a nursing and care franchise for 18 years, Croash Robinson wanted to change his lifestyle. He is honest in his assessment, explaining: “Keeping over 150 staff and over 100 customers happy was emotionally and mentally draining for me.”
Not wanting to employ a large staff or splash out on an office were prerequisites. He, thus, looked at a variety of UK franchise opportunities but there was soon a clear choice. World Options filled that tick box by being able to start the franchise on his own. “The final piece of the jigsaw to give me the confidence to go for World Options was when I met the head office staff and directors,” he says.
Another huge benefit of a World Options franchise is the flexible hours. Although Croash continues to maintain a regular nine-to-five schedule, the flexibility is something he appreciates. He says: “One of my hobbies is horse riding and at times I need to meet farriers, vets, etc during the working day.”
Having spent many years in the Royal Navy as a store accountant, Croash had some logistics experience but going from ships to shipping was exciting. With the help of the development team, he understood the process of marketing his franchise to the correct businesses.
Although he was delighted with the four-day induction training he received from the qualified team, Croash believes there’s no substitute for experience. “Building up my confidence took time,” he says. “When I make calls, I still, at times, remind myself that my calls are all with the intention of not just building my business but helping others to solve problems, offer choices and save money.”
The shipping industry is one that Croash sees can “withstand recessions better than others” and he is optimistic about the future direction despite the events of the last few years. “I see continued growth and nothing else. COVID has had a negative effect on everyone’s lives, but as a business, it has grown during the virus. I know my franchise is continuing to grow as online shopping increases,” he says.
As a World Options franchisee, Croash has access to its industry-leading online portal. “The portal is a great help to my business. It doesn’t just track shipments, it provides breakdowns of carriers being used, it allows for real-time proof of deliveries, provides business intelligence and an accounts package as well as HMRC essential compliance,” he explains.
In the shipping industry, relationships with clients are vital, something Croash takes great care in cultivating. “Being accessible to my customers and by always returning emails and calls. Being proactive in resolving issues with shipments. Never shying away from difficult calls. I enjoy seeing all my customers on at least a yearly basis,” he says.
So what is his best piece of advice for prospective franchisees? “World Options offers a scalable business, but with honest graft and determination, the life-changing rewards are there. The substantial growth I have seen in the business has so far seemed to reflect the effort I have put in,” admits Croash.
