Anytime Fitness has recently unveiled a new interior design for its clubs, as well as a new market positioning, shifting from convenience to coaching. This is evident in the new design, which sees clubs split into various training zones with an open-plan layout, providing a welcoming and contemporary environment for its members.
In line with the brand’s evolved look and feel, the design changes are in response to the soaring popularity of functional training, a type of training that increases flexibility, coordination, balance and posture using a range of equipment associated with daily activities.

The Anytime Fitness franchise model allows both single and multiple site ownership and offers significant earning potential.
The minimum investment of £170,000 covers the franchise fee, fit out and essential costs and gives investors the chance to be their own boss, manage a gym and become an integral part of their local community.
Anytime Fitness encourages owners to have a regular physical presence in its clubs, engaging with members and managing a small team of specialised staff. The model allows people from all backgrounds to own a club, regardless of fitness industry experience.
On selecting a territory and signing a franchise agreement, franchisees are assigned a dedicated franchise performance coach to guide them through every stage of owning a club.
These coaches have years of experience in the fitness industry, ranging from general managers to regional managers across both public and private fitness organisations.
Anytime Fitness works with a number of market-leading partners, including banks and fitness equipment providers, to ensure franchisees receive both competitive financial rates and also the highest level of expertise available to help them succeed.
An example of this is the company’s partnership with leading real estate adviser CBRE to help franchisees with their property searches and achieve competitive commercial terms.
With CBRE having a broad network and contacts within the property industry, the company plays a key role in helping Anytime Fitness achieve its ambitious growth objectives by securing high profile locations.

With one in every seven people in the UK a member of a gym, the health and fitness sector continues to prosper and has proved robust even in times of recession. With over 4,500 clubs worldwide, franchisees can enjoy the support of a world-renowned brand name with a 97 per cent success rate in the UK market.
Franchisees receive recurring monthly direct debit revenue and are charged a fixed franchise fee, regardless of membership numbers and total revenue.
A number of Anytime Fitness franchisees own franchises in other markets, including hospitality, and have been attracted to Anytime Fitness by its profit potential. Rather than, for example, a pizza franchise which requires hundreds of new and existing customers a day, fitness customers are loyal for at least 12 months, which means Anytime Fitness gyms can quickly become self-sustaining.
The business also benefits from a leaner staff structure, with Anytime Fitness gyms typically requiring just four to five full-time staff.

Anytime Fitness franchisees are supported throughout their journey by experts in a number of fields.
From when they’re assigned their franchise performance coach, they are supported every step of the way in sourcing their location and also liaising with relevant contractors and suppliers.
To further bolster its offering, Anytime Fitness appointed a dedicated new openings manager at the end of 2018. As well as providing ongoing support alongside the FPC, they help franchisees maximise the all-important presale period, where the club looks to recruit new members ahead of opening its doors.
After opening, the FPC continues to work closely with the franchisee to help them capitalise on key opportunities and maximise the earning potential of their gym.
Franchisees also benefit from EVOLVE, another new introduction in 2018. This is a balanced scorecard that allows owners to analyse the success of their gym across a number of key performance indicators.
With full training provided by Anytime Fitness’ support office, EVOLVE is designed to help franchisees identify opportunities in their business and help put together a strategy to improve their financial performance.
Owners have access to an internal online dashboard, which is managed by the support office.
This is regularly populated with content to support franchisees, as well as highlighting dates/times for educational webinars on topics including membership retention, digital marketing and social media.
Prospective franchisees have the choice of five- or 10-year franchise agreements. The latter is a recent initiative designed to provide an added level of reassurance and security to both franchisees and prospective landlords.
Included in the agreement is a requirement for a ‘club refresh’ every five years, which requires a club to update its equipment and offering for its members in line with the current brand guidelines of the franchisor.
The fitness industry continues to thrive. The 2018 State of the UK Fitness Industry Report, published by The Leisure Database Company, estimates the fitness market’s value at £5 billion, an increase of 2.9 per cent year on year, and highlights that total membership is approaching 10 million in the UK alone.
