Women driving top businesses

Young entrepreneurial women are driving the UK’s most profitable businesses, according to a report from Experian.

The analysis of Britain’s 3.9 million directors found that:

• 58 per cent of all female directors are in charge of profitable businesses, compared to 56 per cent of male directors.

• Despite this, female directors are still outnumbered by 3.3 male directors to every one female.

• Female directors are getting younger as a group, while male directors are often older. Of female directors, 5.3 per cent are aged 18-29, while the same age group is only represented by four per cent of males.

However, the research has revealed that women are still being locked out of the UK’s top boardrooms, being outnumbered by their male colleagues by a national average of 3.3 to one at boardroom level.
