What are my main responsibilities as a franchisee?
Most franchise agreements will have several pages detailing the franchisee’s responsibilities, but they can best be summed up in three words: follow the system. The franchisor is responsible for developing the business system, creating the brand and defining the standards to which various things should be done. The franchisee is responsible for operating that system. As a franchisee, you must maintain the standards required in all things from delivery of the product or service to reporting correctly and accurately on all relevant activities. You must not do anything to bring the brand into disrepute, or do anything that may damage the franchisor’s business or the businesses of your fellow franchisees. You must also ensure that the same is true of anyone working in your business, that you spend the majority of your time working on the business and that you always use your best endeavours to make your business grow. How you do this will vary from franchise to franchise but all the detail of what has to be done in your particular franchise will be outlined in the operations manual. Your initial training will take you through everything and the manual will be there as a constant reminder.
