Mr Electric is saving its customers money and earning franchisees big profits. What’s more, it is doing so with a unique energy saving proposition at its heart

Jeff Longley, the franchisee for Mr Electric Birmingham North, says the diverse range of energy saving products have helped to grow his business and profits by over 40 per cent in the past three years. Jeff now employs 12 technicians and has 10 vans on the road. With a projected turnover this year of close to £1 million, his business is going from strength to strength.
He says that offering customers a means to save money in these hard economic times isn’t a hard fought sales exercise because it just makes sense.
“As soon as they realise their return on investment is only nine months in some cases, they understand it would be silly not to buy the product and save themselves a lot of money in the long run,” Jeff explains.
He believes that without the energy saving products and the support of the Mr Electric franchisor team, his business would be nowhere near as successful as it is today.
However, Jeff says prospective customers often want the energy saving claims to be proved on an individual basis and before he takes payment for the work. With the claims frequently sounding too good to be true, he understands why customers want them proved before paying. So to assuage any worries the customer may have, Mr Electric’s head, Philip Milburn, came up with an innovative solution - fitting data loggers to customers’ premises.
“Sometimes the claims do sound too good to be true,” Philip says. “But the data loggers can show customers that isn’t the case and we are saving them a lot of money.”
Jeff has had fantastic results with this method, as it allows him to prove the energy saving claims, but also, with a data logger installed, lets him discover if further savings could be made at the premises, therefore offering a potentially dynamic and ever evolving energy saving proposition.
Philip Milburn has enjoyed success in his past roles as managing director of Highway Glass and HomeServe Emergency Services.
