“How I make a living but also a difference in the community with Caremark”

“How I make a living but also a difference in the community with Caremark”

Ash Farid is determined to become the care provider of choice for his local community with his Caremark franchise

Ash Farid started out in the financial services sector but discovered his passion for helping others when in 2013 he founded a football centre aimed at keeping young people active. The centre evolved fast and soon Farid began working with adults with learning disabilities.

“The bookings I enjoyed the most were for disability support groups, when people would come and spend some time just having fun,” said Farid. “Seeing the smiles on their faces inspired me to do more.”

Taking care of his grandparents, who had both suffered strokes, strengthened his resolve to use his energy and entrepreneurial spirit to make a difference in other people’s lives. “I spoke to nurses in the hospital that explained to me how some of their elderly patients had nobody: no family, no visitors, nobody to look after them. It really opened my eyes. Regardless of your background, we all age. It doesn’t discriminate,” he explained.

Farid now leads his own home care franchise,Caremark, in Halifax and Calderdale. His commitment to improving his clients’ quality of life is reflected in every aspect of the business. Officially opened in June 2019, the franchise is already delivering personalised care to people in the local community.

“We’ve achieved Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration and now we’re really focussing on hiring and training our staff,” said Farid, commenting on his next steps for the business. “Caremark gives new franchisees two weeks of training at its headquarters and we’ve replicated that experience in our business. We get to know all our care support workers as people and, in return, we show them we’re prepared to invest in their careers.”

Farid places the most importance on keeping connected to the heart of the business—the people receiving the care. He said: “I want to be face-to-face with our clients, making sure their needs are met. I want to be on a first-name basis with the people we work with. If we keep our focus on providing the best possible standards of care, the balance sheet will look after itself.”

With over 120 offices, the Caremark franchise is considered a leading provider of home care services in the UK and internationally.
