How Razzamataz transforms lives with its scholarship programme

The brand's scheme recognises potential and rewards those who will benefit most from its expert tuition

For more than two decades, Razzamataz Theatre Schools has been investing in the futures of young people through its scholarships, with approximately £250,000 awarded in funded places since the initiative began. This significant investment has helped ensure that children and young people can access high-quality performing arts training, regardless of their financial circumstances, opening doors to opportunities that can transform confidence, creativity and ambition.

The Razzamataz scholarship programme is about recognising potential and giving young people the chance to shine. Open to both existing Razzamataz students and those who may be stepping into a performing arts environment for the very first time, the scholarships are not based on previous experience or professional training. Instead, judges are looking for enthusiasm, imagination, commitment and that special spark of creativity from young people who will benefit from the expert tuition, encouragement and supportive environment that Razzamataz provide.

Celebrating the winners

The winners across the network have just been announced, with every Razzamataz scholarship having its own story. This year, one of those belongs to 11-year-old Grace Saville (pictured, top) from Razzamataz Yeovil. Grace has been part of the Razzamataz family for four years and impressed the judging panel with a thoughtful, confident and professional audition that showcased both her talent and determination. Grace, who is deaf, hopes her scholarship will inspire others by showing that there are no limits to what young people can achieve.

“I am so grateful to be given this amazing opportunity of the Razzamataz scholarship. This will give me a chance to improve and develop my theatrical skills and show everyone that deaf people can do anything they put their minds to,” says Grace.

Her mum, Louise, was equally delighted with the news: “Wow! Grace is absolutely thrilled to hear this news, and we are so proud of her. She worked so hard on her own to do her audition and is really glad to be able to continue her Razzamataz journey.”

Claire, principal of Razzamataz Yeovil, commented on how Grace embodies everything the scholarship programme celebrates: “We are delighted to award this scholarship to Grace. She gave a very professional audition, which she had clearly put a lot of thought and effort into. We can’t wait to continue working with her on developing her performing arts skills.”

From scholarship to the Oliviers

Over the years, many former scholarship winners have progressed into professional performing arts careers, appearing in some of the West End’s biggest productions, including Hamilton, Moulin Rouge, & Juliet, Frozen and many more. One of the earliest scholarship recipients, Danielle Fiamanya (pictured, below), perfectly demonstrates how the programme can help nurture exceptional talent. Danielle attended Razzamataz Glasgow, where she also accompanied Founder and Managing Director Denise Gosney and three other students on the famous episode of Dragons’ Den, introducing millions of viewers to the Razzamataz story.

After receiving one of the network’s early scholarships, Danielle went on to train at the prestigious Guildford School of Acting before building an impressive West End career. She was the understudy for the role of Elsa in Frozen, and most recently received an Olivier Award nomination for her performance in Brigadoon.

“Honestly, it has been such a mad year, but I’m so grateful,” says Danielle. “Razzamataz was the first theatre school I stepped into and I just wouldn’t be here without you and my scholarships at the school. Completely indebted to you.”

Investing in futures

Every Razzamataz scholarship represents an investment in a young person’s future, helping children discover confidence, build friendships and develop essential life skills through the performing arts. For principals, offering scholarships is one of the most rewarding aspects of running a theatre school.
