Modern feel

MyHome ticked all the boxes for Cameron Macleod and his partner, Christina

Cameron Macleod and his partner, Christina, were on the verge of retiring when the opportunity to become involved in MyHome presented itself.

“We’d been looking for cleaners ourselves, when this arose,” Cameron says. “We wanted a professional company - people who would come in and out and do an excellent job. When we saw MyHome, it ticked all the boxes for our own personal needs, plus we liked the modern feel of the business.”

Experienced

As experienced franchisees - the couple had previously been involved in printing and then a care business - they knew what they were looking for in a new venture.

“It had to be professional, with a good support system and opportunity for growth,” Cameron says.

This led them to the residential cleaning sector, which is generally serviced by small independents, agencies and self-employed cleaners. They then had a look at several of the brands in the market and decided on MyHome, thanks to its contemporary feel and tried and tested systems and processes.

“The next step was the training,” Cameron says. “We worked through the operations manual, which covered marketing, sales, recruitment, time management, the unique Tri-colour cleaning process and finally ‘understanding the numbers’, which is about operating the business efficiently and profitably through the use of planning, recording and measuring cost and productivity ratios.”

Based in Bournemouth, the couple began their business in late 2014, with realistic expectations for growth over the next three years.

“Any kind of business requires time, energy, dedication, focus and commitment, especially in the early days,” Cameron says. “But the benefits of taking on a properly managed franchise is that you have the back-up to lean on and a clear plan to follow.

“We currently have three liveried vans and eight staff. In four or five years’ time we should have 10-12 vehicles and sales of around £1 million.

“We’d have a choice then as to whether to put a manager in place or perhaps sell up and finally retire.”
