The first Rush hair salon opened its doors in 1994 and the business now has 97 salons operating nationwide serving 12,000 clients every week.
Rush has won over 50 different hairdressing awards.
The business was co-founded by Andy Phouli and Stelios ‘Stell’ Andrews, who opened their first salon in Wimbledon in 1994. “Our goal was to help clients make the most of their hair, with modern, bespoke hairstyles,” says co-founder Stell Andrews. “When I think back to the ‘90s, it’s incredible how much treatments, techniques and trends have changed. Back then everyone wanted the ‘Rachel from Friends’ layers or a Baby Spice fringe. But over the years, our ethos has remained the same – we want you to leave looking and feeling fabulous.”
The Rush name came from the back page of a newspaper, says Stell. The heading caught his eye: “Being the buzz word of the nineties party scene, it seemed fitting that this name was right for us. Our greatest achievement in business is building a brand from scratch and working hand in hand against all the odds. Today we are very proud of what the Rush brand has become.”

At Rush, franchising with the right partner is essential to how the business is run. The founders believe that Rush is the spark of something different, something special and unique. The minimum personal investment in the franchise is £15,000, while the total investment will be an estimated £165,000. A Management Service Fee will be charged at 10 per cent of turnover, excluding VAT.
Rush Hair has a structured process put in place to ensure it is the right option for you. Its process includes training in all aspects of running a successful hairdressing salon. The typical time between enquiring and opening your Rush salon will be six months.
Your journey to becoming a franchisee begins with creating a bespoke business plan and finding a suitable location. You will also gain valuable hands on experience in a salon and in our in-house academy training facilities. Training is offered in all departments, including marketing, operations, HR and finance. You will also learn about the Rush Hair call centre, to give you an understanding of all the processes within the company.
Once a suitable location is found, shop fitting, recruitment, training and marketing campaigns can begin. As a guide, the cost of a salon can typically range between £150,000 and £165,000. You will need to provide a minimum personal investment of £15,000.
The Rush hair industry experts and franchise team will provide you with a wealth of experience and the support to ensure that your salon becomes a success. On average, a Rush Hair & Beauty franchisee typically sees a return on investment over two to three years. Salons can build to over £1m in revenue, but this is not guaranteed; it is totally down to you.
Rush Hair is happy for its franchisees to set up their franchise in their own property – whether it is a property they own or one they have found themselves – and franchisees can open more than one salon, depending on performance.

A Rush franchise lasts for five years and, subject to agreed performance schedules being met within that period, can be extended for a further five years.
The UK beauty industry is estimated to be worth £6.2bn worldwide annually, with hair salons generating 77 per cent if that revenue.
It is estimated that the hair & beauty industry will grow by 2 per cent annually between 2010 and 2015.
A customer will visit a salon every six weeks for a cut, and every 10 weeks for a colour - we spend on average £460 a year on shampoo, conditioner and styling products. As Rush notes, hair does not stop growing in a recession.
