What are the advantages of a vehicle-based franchise?

Since this is where I started my career in franchising as a franchisee nearly 40 years ago, I will start by listing all the advantages I identified at that time. The first of course is that no premises are required, so there is no rent or property cost and, in my case, I was even able to start using my existing vehicle, so there were no additional costs there. I didn’t need to employ anybody and overheads were minimal, so that’s a bonus for any start-up.For me, other big advantages were that I was out and about, not stuck in the same place every day and I stood or fell by my own efforts. It was my job to find the work, my job to do the work and my job to make sure I got paid, so there was nobody to point the finger at if it all went wrong, provided of course I had picked a supportive franchisor with a proven system, which it turned out I had.Nowadays, franchisors tend to provide a lot more help with finding the work and accounting for it, so ideally a one-man band can concentrate on doing what brings the money in, a situation that works well for everyone.
