Will a franchisor assist me with launching my business locally?
They almost certainly will, but levels of assistance vary greatly between franchises, often in direct proportion to the maturity of the system. The management of a newly launched franchised network, particularly if they do not have previous franchising experience or have not taken the advice of a British Franchise Association affiliated franchise consultant, probably don’t even know what type of support should be provided, much less the level. Even if they have the financial and human resources to provide the required support, they are also much more likely to be concentrating on recruiting new franchisees in order to build the network and keep it afloat. At it’s simplest, the support may just be examples of adverts that you are free to place in whichever media you choose. These examples will be laid out in the operations manual and will probably have the typestyles and pantone numbers (ie, colours) specified - this will certainly be the case if the franchisor’s logo is being used. Other franchisors will provide you with a central advert booking service, which they either run themselves or sub-contract to a media buying agency. Such a service will advise you on the most appropriate local media for your product or service and enable you to get the best rates.
