Former training manager David Greenaway struck lucky when he joined leading automotive paintwork repair franchise ChipsAway
Although well paid, David Greenaway’s role involved a lot of travel and living away from home, which ultimately led to his decision to take his career into his own hands and go into franchising.
After looking around for opportunities in a range of sectors, he eventually chose ChipsAway, as he was impressed with the professionalism and reputation of the brand.
“I initially looked at franchises in different sectors, but I decided that having always worked in the automotive sector I wanted to stick with what I knew and loved, and ChipsAway stood head and shoulders above the rest,” David says.

He attended an open day, which confirmed that ChipsAway was the right opportunity for him. David enjoyed the training and his business got off to a great start with a very successful launch in which he secured £4,000 worth of bookings.
“The trainers were spot on - patient, knowledgeable and they made the experience fun and interesting,” David says. “I also had an existing franchisee mentoring me, which I found invaluable during my launch and while I was establishing my business. Now, two years in, I have found the support from the management team to be top notch.”
David adds: “It’s going really well. I have built a good reputation in my local area with both customers and body shops and am now beginning to get repeat business and referrals.”
When asked if he has any regrets, he laughs: “Definitely not. I love being my own boss, I can work when it suits me and you get out what you put in. People say I am lucky that my business is going so well, but in this game you make your own luck. The harder you work, the luckier you get.”
With around 300 specialists in operation nationwide, ChipsAway repairs scratches, bumper scuffs and kerbed alloy wheels on a same day basis in a location convenient to customers.
