The fast-food franchise partners with Keep Britain Tidy in The Colonel's biggest ever litter pickin' mission

KFC has announced its cheekily named #DontBeATosser campaign aimed at reducing litter in its local communities. Working with Keep Britain Tidy, the chicken chain will fight the eyesore that is litter with 3,000 team members across the country taking part in its biggest-ever litter picking mission with a goal of 20,000 bags.

KFC has also created a new £40,000 fund to equip local litter picking groups across the country and will work with three local councils to trial new ways of reducing waste such as testing localised anti-littering marketing messages and the creation of new concept rubbish bins.

15 ft banners bearing the slogan #DontBeATosser will be erected outside stores across the UK. Chief corporate affairs and sustainability officer, Jenny Packwood, said: “As the weather warms up and we all enjoy more time outside, the eyesore of litter in our local communities is more noticeable than ever. That’s why we’re joining forces with Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean to make sure more people can enjoy the outdoor space around them with our biggest ever litter pickin’ mission with over 3,000 of our team members.

“But tidying up our local communities isn’t just a one-off event; litter carries a long-term cost to the community and to the environment. We take our responsibility to tackle litter seriously and want to be part of the longer-term solution to reduce the impact in all the communities we serve.”

Allison Ogden-Newton, CEO of leading litter charity, Keep Britain Tidy added: “It’s great to see our Great British Spring Clean headline partner, KFC, taking real action on the litter problem, and that starts with their huge litter pick this week. Through our new grant scheme, funded by KFC and administered by Keep Britain Tidy, we’ll provide some of the much-needed kit to support local community litter-picking groups in their endeavours too. We are delighted that as part of their commitment to tackling litter, KFC are also running their own version of our famous #Don’tBeATosser campaign, encouraging us all to be mindful of how we dispose of used packaging.”
