Can I work a franchise part-time?
That will depend on the franchisor’s requirements. Most franchise agreements stipulate that the franchisee must spend the majority of their working week on the business, but there are an increasing number of opportunities where the business is meant to be a parttime activity. Sometimes, particularly in the food service business, a franchisor may have franchisees who are also franchisees of another system, or there are some bolt-on franchises, such as a car-hire business attached to a car dealers, where technically the franchisee would work part-time on one system, but the overall business would inevitably be a full-time activity. What will not be acceptable is operating part-time in what is intended to be a full-time business. You may say, “I can earn all I want to by operating part-time”, but that will not generate the income for the franchisor that is required from a typical outlet. One of the most important aspects of franchisee recruitment is matching the income aspirations of both franchisor and franchisee. If there is no match, then both parties should be looking for someone else with whom to do business.
