About The Detective Project

The Detective Project workshops are based around a crime scene investigation, aimed at both adults and children. Founded in 2010 in Bristol by an ex-police detective, the award-winning business offers three income streams – children’s parties, school workshops and adult / corporate activities.

Children’s parties – A group of seven-plus-year-olds are faced with a challenge to solve an age-appropriate and very hands-on crime scene investigation. They take away a themed party bag and a few more detective skills. There are several different themes for different age groups from children to adults.

School workshops – Science-based investigation for primary and secondary schools that bring the curriculum to life. Workshop examples range from a primary school topic on ‘Crime and Punishment’ to the business’ unique Gangs and County Lines workshop for PHSE secondary students.

Adult / corporate events - Take a group of adults, either work colleagues or maybe a multi-generational party and give them a crime scene investigation to solve and make it competitive. It is a brilliantly received team bonding activity.

How does The Detective Project franchise model work?

Franchisees run the whole range of activities in their exclusive territory. Their initial training and business in a box set up allow them to hit the ground running. In time, they are free to subcontract work to selected presenters which increases their revenue.

What training and support does The Detective Project offer its franchisees?

Initial training is five days and includes office-based training in running the business, marketing, social media, bookkeeping and the operations manual. New franchisees also shadow events for ‘on the job’ training. Unlimited office hours support from the head office and the team means new members are able to flourish.

What is The Detective Project looking for in a franchisee?

Its current franchisees have backgrounds in policing, teaching and forensic science which are ideal as their skills and experience allow them to provide the high standard events which The Detective Project is known for. The Detective Project welcomes contact from people with other skills if they think they would be complementary to the team. None of the team has run a business before – that’s where the head office expertise and support comes in.

How much does The Detective Project franchise cost?

The initial franchise fee is £9,995 and includes all kit and equipment to run events as well as the training described above. This is a home-based business so overheads are very low. Events are held at the client’s venue.

The Detective Project expects its franchisees to have repaid their initial investment well within the first year and be showing a healthy profit by year 2 onwards. Two of its franchise territories are shared by two presenters, which has worked well, one of them also subcontracts work to experienced presenters and their revenues have increased substantially.

What locations or territories are available?

The Detective Project is keen to get the right people on board and their location is secondary to the skills they have. The business welcomes enquiries from all over the UK.

What are the franchise terms of agreement and renewal?

There is a five-year licence with renewal at no cost.

Why is The Detective Project franchise a good investment?

The Detective Project has grown steadily since its founding and its very successful franchisees are proof that the model works. There is a demand for its services and the head office support is total. Most of its work comes from word of mouth recommendations and repeat business levels are high. Having three income streams means there is year-round demand for its workshops.

The Detective Project is proud of the many testimonials that can be seen on the website while further information about the team is also there as well as on its social media channels.
