Rebecca Newenham, consultant at Ashtons Franchise Consulting, shares her advice on achieving success in franchising
Ambition, determination and resilience are key characteristics of successful franchisees. Running a franchise can be incredibly exciting and fulfilling. But it can also mean huge amounts of hard work, and it isn’t always plain sailing. You must be prepared to put in the hard graft to reap the rewards. It’s essential to be clear on your vision before you embark on your franchise journey. What does success look like, and how will you get there?
Being organised and able to delegate are also critical skills. Franchisors will set guidelines for branding, reporting, and other processes that they expect you to follow. Outsourcing can enable you to focus on what you do best whilst ensuring the different elements of running your franchise are complete. You don’t have to be an expert in everything, but you need to know your own strengths and be willing to empower others to manage other areas of the franchise when required.

Franchising can offer the best of both worlds – the freedom to run your own business and the support of an established brand. If you can embrace your inner entrepreneur whilst being inspired by the experience of your franchisor, you will enjoy a successful franchise career.
