How long after signing the franchise agreement are most franchisees in business?
The whole point about franchising is that the process of setting up a business can be streamlined because the franchisor and its other franchisees have undertaken this process on a number of previous occasions. It is the role of the franchisor to provide franchisees with assistance in setting up their business, so franchisors assist in finding premises, provide initial training to the franchisee and employees, provide initial stock of stationery and signage as well as products for sale, stipulate the required office furniture and IT equipment, provide a marketing and PR launch, and also a general advisory service to franchisees to enable them to start their business. As to the amount of time it will take between signing an agreement and a franchisee starting to trade, that depends on a number of factors. Some franchisors provide extensive initial training and/or a limited number of training courses, so availability could delay opening a franchise. Another factor that can have an impact on when a franchisee starts to trade is the availability of premises for those franchisees that operate from retail premises.Notwithstanding the above, most franchise agreements require franchisees to open for business within a specified time - normally three-six months after signing their franchise agreement.
