What type of advertising support can I expect from a franchisor?
The type and amount of support will vary from franchisor to franchisor. At it’s simplest, it may just be examples of adverts, which you are free to place in whichever media you choose. Other franchisors will provide you with a central advert booking service, which they either run themselves or sub-contract to a media buying agency. Such a service will advise you on the most appropriate local media for your product or service and enable you to get the best rates. Most franchisors will collect fees from all the franchisees and use the funds to place advertising in national and regional media. Sometimes they may use the fund to pay for all the advertising in local media, too. Above all else, the franchisor should know better than anyone what sort of advertising works best for its franchisees. Sometimes the best support it can give is to stop you wasting your money on useless schemes and help you prepare an effective media plan and marketing budget for your business.
